Eagley Community Choir

The Community Choir was formed in September 2013, initially intended to be made up of Community (Saturday) Band members who said they would love to sing in a choir as well as play instruments, but wished to avoid the pressure of auditioning for an existing choir or incur any of the costs and travel involved.

Together with his daughter Georgina as the choir’s first piano accompanist, Chris duly accepted the challenge of forming a free-to-all choir (his other daughter Charlotte, also a Grade 8 pianist, was the accompanist for the second season) and such was the excitement, enthusiasm and standard of the choir at the very first rehearsal, when an amazing 66 people turned up to sing, the following Tuesday saw a huge 110 people turn up and this number continued every Tuesday for 7 years, through to the pandemic lockdowns of March 2020.

Just like Community Band, when all arts activities restarted post-lockdown in July 2021, the Community Choir also needed a new home and duly became part of the Eagley family straight away too, continuing very successfully but also smaller, whilst remaining completely free to all who wish to participate. Since restarting, membership has remained at around a constant 68 committed singers, with new members now joining every term. This is a very healthy number for an entirely amateur choir in which nobody has, or ever will, audition to join, or pay anything at all to be involved. Like Eagley’s main band and the Community Band, the Community Choir and all of its singers are delighted to be part of The King’s Award For Voluntary Service bestowed in November 2025.
