Summer Concert Success At The Parish Church

On Saturday evening July 5th, once again coinciding with the first night of National Brass Band Week throughout the UK, we performed our Summer Concert to a packed Bolton Parish Church for the third July in a row. As always, we included our Community Choir and Community Band and were conducted and hosted by our MD Chris Wormald, with our eclectic programme ranging from compositions by Waespi, Curnow, Bernstein, Gershwin, Rutter and Wagner to the music of Mission Impossible, Queen, E.L.O., Toto, Tears For Fears, Mike & The Mechanics and many more.

The evening was kindly attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, Councillor David Chadwick and his wife, Eagley Band President Gerry Russell and introduced by former Mayor of Bolton Councillor John Walsh OBE. Our MD Chris Wormald once again invited Bass Trombonist Dec Cullen to conduct in both halves of the concert, in the first half the beautiful hymn tune Deep Harmony, and later in the evening Dec’s own excellent arrangement of the folk song Scarborough Fair made famous by the American vocal duo Simon & Garfunkel.

The concert concluded with a rousing finale of Wagner’s Procession To The Minster from Lohengrin and ended as planned at just after 9.40pm to a huge ovation from the audience, happily even bigger than our last two packed July concerts at the Parish Church.
