On Saturday night April 27th, we returned to the scene of one of our favourite concerts of last season to perform a night of film and film musicals to another packed audience. Together with our friends and colleagues of Community Choir throughout the evening and Community Band after the interval, our audience of many hundreds once again was treated to iconic music ranging from Star Wars, Gladiator, Mission Impossible, The Magnificent Seven, Have You Met Miss Jones? and Moonlight Serenade to songs from Hamilton, A Chorus Line, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Sound of Music and a rousing finale of Les Miserables featuring over 100 instrumentalists and singers to raise the roof at the end.
There was also a very special presentation from the band made to Band President Gerry Russell who celebrates his 80th birthday in three weeks and the evening closed at 9.45pm with an encore of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious taken from our MD Chris Wormald’s arrangement of Mary Poppins, published many years ago by Obrasso.
Our next concert open to the public in Bolton Parish Church on Saturday July 6th promises to be just as exciting but very different. With a working title of “Anniversaries” related to 2024 our programme will feature Riverdance (1994), Olympic Fanfare & Theme (1984), Mack And Mabel (1974), Mary Poppins (1964) plus a few surprises from pieces made famous in years ending with the number four!
